Grandma's funeral

We buried my grandmother today. It was sad but my mood was lightened many times by watching and listening to my four year old niece. I am going to paste some excerpts of the email I sent to my brother.

Last night at the viewing the first thing she said to me was, "Great grandma's dead". She said it all night and Kya was copying her saying, "G-ma dead". That wasn't really the funny part though. When Kari saw the casket she said "Great grandma's very really bit sleeping." and apparently all last night at home she would tell her parents things like "I want to see that girl" "What happened to that girl" " Why has that girl died?" and Kelli over and over told her that first of all she is not a girl but a lady and that she is with Jesus. Today I got to the church about the same time as Kelli and Kade so of course I got Kari out of the car. Just as we got to the side walk she could see a very old woman who was hunched over. The woman was climbing the stairs to go in to the church. Kari yelled, "Hey, look! She's alive!" That was the funniest thing ever!!! She definitely has a fascination with people and things. She kept telling me she wanted to see the girl up close or she would call our grandma "grandma-sid" She would push past the line and sneak up to the casket. Finally, I just lifted her up so she could see. I told her that great grandma was kind of like snow white laying there. She didn't agree. She said, "No, that's not Snow White that is a girl, Grandma-Sid." She had too much energy to be at a funeral. That was for sure. I was entertained by her though.

i'm sorry about your grandmother!! (((HUGS))). you've got to love 4 year olds though. Kayla's been really interested about dying lately, and asking alot of tough questions. luckily, i haven't had to deal with a funeral with her yet though. we haven't been to one since my cousin drowned 2 years ago, and she was too younge to be curious. i love their sweet, honest innocence!
